Kelly James
Creating the vision…
Kelly James is a seasoned animation director and storyboard artist whose work has shaped some of the most beloved children’s programming of the past three decades. After graduating from the Art Institute of Houston, she moved to Los Angeles and began her career working on iconic series such as The Simpsons and Rugrats. She went on to direct Hey Arnold! and storyboard the pilot for Disney’s Recess Gang before contributing to a wide range of Disney favorites including Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Jake and the Never Land Pirates, Minnie’s Bow-Toons, and Puppy Dog Pals.
With a foundation rooted in traditional, hand-drawn storytelling, Kelly has spent her career mastering the rhythm, emotion, and visual language that make animated worlds feel alive. Today, as the animation industry undergoes a profound transformation, she stands at a unique intersection—bridging the craftsmanship of classic storyboarding with the emerging possibilities of AI-assisted creation.
Her current work explores this evolving relationship between artist and technology—not as a replacement for human creativity, but as a powerful collaborator. By blending intuitive, hand-drawn development with modern tools, Kelly is able to expand creative boundaries while maintaining the soul and intentionality that define meaningful storytelling.
At the heart of her work is a deep love for protecting children and a commitment to creating stories that resonate beyond the screen. Through allegory, symbolism, and richly imagined worlds, Kelly brings light to complex issues with care, beauty, and hope—inviting audiences into stories that are as visually captivating as they are emotionally enduring.
